Dr. Bhanu Iyer
Overview
Bhanu Iyer, MD, FACE, ECNUDr. Bhanu Iyer is a fellowship-trained endocrinologist with Atlantic Medical Group’s Thyroid Center. With board certifications in endocrinology and internal medicine, Dr. Iyer diagnoses and treats endocrine disorders such as diabetes, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, hyperlipidemia and obesity. A proponent of functional medicine, she strives to gain a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors to provide personalized treatment plans that lead to improved health outcomes. Dr. Iyer joins Dr. James Chen, the Thyroid Center's director from her role as chief medical officer at Elk Medical, a private practice in Brooklyn, NY. She is one of few endocrinologists in the area who has earned ECNU certification in neck ultrasonography. This certification allows Dr. Iyer to perform diagnostic evaluations including ultrasound-guided thyroid, parathyroid, and lymph node biopsies.With a focus on healthy eating to treat many metabolic conditions, Dr. Iyer is helping patients control their blood sugar, lose weight, and improve their overall well-being. She advocates for whole food, plant-based nutrition, earning a certification from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at Cornell University. Dr. Iyer is fluent in Hindi and Tamil. She maintains membership in the American Thyroid Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Endocrine Society.
