Overview
Prior to joining VED in December, 2017, Dr. Hammer was with Baltimore Washington Eye Center. Dr. Hammer earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine followed by an Internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. He then completed his training with a residency in Ophthalmology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center which serves the greater Washington, DC Metro area. Dr. Hammer served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Ireland Community Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Dr. Hammer enjoys spending time with his family and is very involved with the community. His commitment and his passion for his work is demonstrated by the loyalty of his patients.

Howard County Medical Pavilion
Fasika A. Woreta, M.D., M.P.H. is a cornea and cataract specialist and the Eugene de Juan, M.D. Professor of Ophthalmic Education at Wilmer Eye Institute’s Baltimore and Columbia locations. Her expertise is in in corneal and external eye diseases, including complex cataracts and anterior segment reconstruction following trauma. Dr. Woreta is currently the director of the Eye Trauma Center and the director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program at the Wilmer Eye Institute. An associate professor of ophthalmology, Dr. Woreta received her M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and her M.P.H. degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, then completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, as well as an accident and emergency and cataract fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital. A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Shah attended college at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He later earned his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and remained there to pursue his residency in Ophthalmology where he was also honored to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Shah then pursued his fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Associated Retina Consultants in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Shah has been privileged to author or co-author over 40 book chapters and topics as well as publish scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has been invited to lecture both physicians and students on current clinical issues. As a resident, he received multiple honors including Intern of the Year, Resident of the Year, and the Golden Apple for Teaching by the College of Medicine. He was even bestowed with Hahnemann University Hospital's highest award for training physicians – ""Excellence in Clinical Practice for a Fellow, Resident, or Intern."" Dr. Shah enjoys all aspects of retinal disease, but has particular interests in the management of acute, subacute, and chronic retinal disorders including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and complex retinal detachments.
