My goal as a pediatrician is to ensure that each child and their family has the tools and knowledge to live healthy and fulfilling lives. I love working with children because they are blank slates and can be positively influenced to live healthier and meaningful lives. They are also a lot of fun to be around! I love spending time with my family, which includes my husband and 2 children. We are originally from the Northeast so I love everything that Orlando has to offer, especially the warmer weather! We are absolutely becoming a Disney family as well. I manage most endocrine conditions but have a special interest in children and teens with diabetes, and improving care with the use of technology. My practice style is to work with the family to come up with the best plan for each child. Dr. Vyas is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypoaldosteronism. Her top areas of expertise are Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), Short Stature (Growth Disorders), Precocious Puberty, and Familial Short Stature (FSS).

I come from a family of doctors who strongly believe in giving back to the community. They taught me very early on how rewarding it is to be a physician. I always aspired to become a pediatrician. Treating children is such an exciting and challenging field. Endocrine conditions are chronic and many are lifelong. It gives me immense satisfaction to take care of children, see them get better and watch them grow up to be healthy adults. I am passionate about providing the best care to my patients. They are my priority, and so are their families. The family-centered approach at Nemours means that I can take time to really listen to parents’ concerns and explain their child’s medical condition carefully. It makes a difference to them, and is more satisfying for me as well. I try to make a difference by keeping myself current on the latest research and treatment options for endocrine conditions. In this way, I live up to my responsibility to provide the best care to my patients. Dr. Gurnurkar is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypoaldosteronism. Her top areas of expertise are Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), Precocious Puberty, Short Stature (Growth Disorders), and Familial Short Stature (FSS).

I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From an early age, I loved learning new things and displayed an intellectual curiosity about different issues related to health conditions. Also, my father was a pediatrician who gave me the opportunity to follow his work. Having that chance to witness how rewarding it was to help families, captured my interest as well. He was my inspiration. Children have a pure appreciation for the work we do. I believe if you have a positive impact on the health of a child, you can impact the future of that child as well. Most of the children we care for don’t bring on their conditions – it’s out of their control. I enjoy the challenge of interacting with children and helping them to understand their condition. I’m passionate about finding which hormonal abnormality is behind the child’s signs and symptoms. I also embrace the challenge of finding the best therapy to treat each condition. I’m a big believer in communicating with the patient and family. And, I try to make myself accessible to address their concerns and needs. Dr. Carakushansky is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypoaldosteronism. His top areas of expertise are Pediatric Growth Hormone Deficiency, Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD), Short Stature (Growth Disorders), and Precocious Puberty.

What is the definition of Hypoaldosteronism?

Hypoaldosteronism is a condition characterized by the shortage (deficiency) or impaired function of a hormone called aldosterone. The symptoms of this condition include low sodium (hyponatremia), too much potassium (hyperkalemia), and a condition where the body produces too much acid (metabolic acidosis). These symptoms may cause muscle weakness, nausea, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, and abnormal blood pressure. Hypoaldosteronism may be described as hyporeninemic (low renin level) or hyperreninemic (high renin level) based on the amount of another chemical produced in the kidneys called renin. Hypoaldosteronism can be caused by other health conditions or medications. Individuals with diabetes, kidney disease, primary adrenal insufficiency, lead poisoning, or severe illness can develop Hypoaldosteronism. Certain medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, heparin or medications used to treat heart failure can cause Hypoaldosteronism. There are rare forms of congenital Hypoaldosteronism that can be inherited in families. This condition is diagnosed based on the symptoms and confirmed by various blood tests (plasma renin activity, serum aldosterone, and serum cortisol) The exact incidence of Hypoaldosteronism is unknown.

When should I see a Hypoaldosteronism doctor near Orlando, FL?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Hypoaldosteronism doctor near Orlando, FL?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Hypoaldosteronism doctors near Orlando, FL?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Hypoaldosteronism doctors near Orlando, FL?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Hypoaldosteronism doctor near Orlando, FL?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Hypoaldosteronism doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Hypoaldosteronism doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Hypoaldosteronism doctor near Orlando, FL?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Hypoaldosteronism doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Hypoaldosteronism doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Hypoaldosteronism doctors near Orlando, FL?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Hypoaldosteronism doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Hypoaldosteronism doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Hypoaldosteronism doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
