Teo Mendez, M.D. is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who focuses on both operative and non-operative management of sports-related injuries, musculoskeletal injuries and arthritis.Dr. Mendez is a native of Richmond, Virginia where he graduated high school from The Collegiate School. He then went on to attend the University of Virginia where he graduated in 2005 with dual bachelor degrees in physics and economics while also minoring in chemistry. He received his M.D. degree at Emory University School of Medicine in 2009. From 2009 to 2014 he served as a resident at the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was the chief administrative resident for the department of orthopedics from 2013 to 2014. During his tenure at the University of Miami, Dr. Mendez participated in the care of athletes from the University of Miami and the Miami Marlins.Following residency, Dr. Mendez completed a sports medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital. During his fellowship he concentrated on minimally invasive and advanced arthroscopic techniques for the treatment of sports-related injuries and participated in the care of athletes from the New York Jets, New York Islanders, Manhattanville College, Hunter College, and various New York City high school teams. He is an Active Member of AAOS, AOSSM and Board Certified. He currently serves as the team physician for Queens College and York College. Dr. Mendez has authored a variety of research articles and book chapters on a variety of topics in the field of orthopedics and sports medicine. Dr. Cohn also specializes in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, hip labral injury and impingement, and shoulder arthroscopy and shoulder replacement surgery. After graduating from Mount Sinai School of Medicine with distinction in research, Dr. Cohn performed his orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases where he was recognized for his leadership and clinical teaching. He completed his sports medicine fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. As a fellow in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Cohn served as an assistant team physician for the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Revolution, and numerous colleges and high schools, gaining experience in treating athletes at all levels.Currently, Dr. Cohn is the team orthopaedic surgeon for Hofstra University and several Long Island high schools. He also serves as the director of Northwell Health s Dance Medicine and Performing Arts Program, Young Adult Hip Preservation Program, and as the medical director of the Hofstra University Athletic Training Program. Dr. Cohn's academic titles include Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine and the Program Director of the Northwell Health Huntington Hospital Orthopaedic Residency Program.Dr. Cohn's research interests include clinical outcomes of sports medicine procedures including arthroscopic surgery and ligament reconstruction. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals on topics including shoulder instability, shoulder injuries in throwing athletes, groin injuries, hip arthroscopy, patella (knee cap) dislocation, anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tears, knee replacement surgery, and sideline management of athletic injuries.Having grown up in Valley Stream, New York, Dr. Cohn is excited to return home to practice at the Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute and Long Island Jewish Valley Stream.
