"Philosophy of care | My philosophy of care is patient-centered. I believe in a strong doctor and patient relationship that involves mutual respect, honesty, compassion and personal responsibility. I believe an essential part of ""doctoring"" is providing quality medical care in a caring atmosphere where every patient is heard and treated as a unique individual. | Why I entered medicine | Ever since I could remember I had always wanted to go into medicine. I am one of seven children. My mother was a nurse and she always encouraged me to enter the medical profession. She entered nursing school when I was 8 years old. I was brought up watching her study, listening to stories about patients and the hospital. My enthusiasm for medicine continued in high school and college; I loved the sciences. When it was time to fill out my application, I knew being a doctor would enable me to make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people when they need it most, and there are not many professions that give us that privilege. | Community involvement | I remain active in the community supporting my church, childrens schools and sports teams. I am also active in the American Heart Association's Lehigh Valley chapter. | Personal interests | As a mother of three beautiful children, wife of a wonderful cardiologist and a solo medical practitioner in internal medicine, personal interests are hard to fit in. My father purchased a home on the Jersey Shore in 1994, which allows me to enjoy the beach and precious time with my family. I also love to ski. I started skiing in medical school and make a yearly trek out West with my family and friends. As a physician, I am always reminding patients of the benefits of regular exercise, and I, too, try to remain physically active. In 2011, I completed the Lehigh Valley Marathon -- that was a very proud moment!". Dr. Persin is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Invertebral Disc Disease. Philosophy of care | I have always felt that physicians should treat the whole patient, not just symptoms. Pain is a complex condition by nature as I cannot feel what you are experiencing. Only by listening to you, examining you, reviewing your studies/imaging, will I be able to accurately pin down what is causing your pain. Taking care of both your mental and physical health is key to putting you on the road to recovery | Why I entered medicine | When it came time for me to decide where I was heading with my life, I decided to explore the medical field by volunteering at the local ER. While the environment of the ER was very chaotic, my experience was nothing short of amazing. It was extremely rewarding to be able to help care for others when they are at the most vulnerable moment. I knew then that I want to take more of a role in helping others. Medicine then felt like a natural path for me to take. | Personal interests | In my free time I enjoy photography, tennis and trying new restaurants. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. Why I entered medicine | The men in my family traditionally studied engineering, and so becoming a chemical engineer felt like a natural fit for me. But when I was working for DuPont and then Nestle, I realized I was missing out on what I really liked most -- more direct contact with people. My father ran his own small business manufacturing parts out of metal and plastic to build different type of machines. This was the “family business,” so that’s where I spent many of my nights and weekends as a child. I was working on lathe and milling machines when I was about 8 years old. As an adult, I needed to work with my hands -- and not just with a pencil or computer. Surgery, particularly orthopedic surgery, allows me to do that. Thanks to years of mechanical and engineering training, I have a superior three-dimensional concept of how the body works and moves. Spine surgery is a great way for me to apply this understanding. Philosophy of care | As your doctor, my goal is to help you get your life back! Pain medicine is always focused on reducing your level of pain to restore your functionality. I believe in the philosophy that chronic pain may stem from physical, emotional and/or spiritual components. I work to address each of these components to improve your quality of life. Using minimally invasive spinal procedures and other leading-edge techniques, I promise to provide you with the highest standard of care. | Why I entered medicine | Ever since I was young, I always sympathized with the needs of others and sought to ease their discomfort, whether it was physical or emotional. I always knew that I would end up in a field that allowed me to encompass both aspects of care. | Community involvement | I find it rewarding to volunteer my medical services in my local community as well as around the world by attending medical brigades and missions. We have high-quality medical care in this country, and I believe it is important to share this privilege with those who are less fortunate. | Personal interests | I enjoy traveling, playing recreational sports (basketball, tennis, golf and soccer), indulging in the intricacies of architecture and aviation, and above all, spending time with my loved ones. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. Philosophy of care | I have been caring for patients over 25 years. The central theme of my care is treating you (and every patient) with the utmost respect. We will make decisions together and I will treat you as if you are a member of my own family. I will use my expertise to explain all the particulars of your diagnosis and treatment options so that you can best make informed decisions for yourself. | Why I entered medicine | I decided to pursue a career in medicine at age 13 when my 11-year-old brother was hospitalized with a severe spinal infection. I never waivered in that decision, and found as I went through the process that I thoroughly enjoy helping others, finding ways to solve their problems and being their advocate through medical issues. I enthusiastically enjoy every day doing this type of work. | Community involvement | Since I came to this area in 1995, I have dedicated a substantial portion of my time to the community. I have served leadership roles at the local hospitals for 23 of those 25 years, have always treated everyone regardless of ability to pay, taken care of athletes for many hours on the fields and contributed to numerous local charities. I was honored to be inducted into the Warren County (N.J.) Hall of Fame for my community service. | Personal interests | My main interests are my children. My daughter works for the National Academy of Medicine. She received her master’s degree in Global Health from Duke University. She and I have traveled all over the world and pursue outdoor activities such as helicopter skiing in the Canadian Rockies, hiking Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, bungee jumping and doing a safari in South Africa, ice glacier hiking in Norway, and bar hopping in Copenhagen. My son just got drafted by the Chicago White Sox as a pitcher and I support his endeavors spending many hours on the baseball diamond. Our family has a thirst for exploration, adventures and loving and supporting each other. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. Philosophy of care | Every patient, every time. I treat every patient as I would a beloved family member. It’s what patients expect and deserve: my best anytime and every time. | Why I entered medicine | I studied science in college and was on an internship with a large company when a co-worker got sick. Everything stopped and everyone went to the hospital. When the doctor came out to discuss his condition, that was the only thing in the whole world that mattered to his friends and family. It was also when I realized medicine is the most important application of science – and my calling. | Community involvement | My family and I support our community in various ways. | Personal interests | When not working, I help raise our four children along with my wife – who does all the heavy lifting. What is the definition of Invertebral Disc Disease?

Intervertebral disc disease, also known as degenerative disc disease, is a condition in which the one or more of the discs that cushion and absorb pressure between the vertebrae of the spine degenerate and cause pain. Intervertebral disc disease may lead to curvature of the spine (adult scoliosis), herniated disc, spinal stenosis (narrowing), and slipped discs (spondylolisthesis). Intervertebral disc disease is a part of aging and is common in older adults.

When should I see an Invertebral Disc Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing an Invertebral Disc Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Invertebral Disc Disease doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Invertebral Disc Disease doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Invertebral Disc Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Invertebral Disc Disease doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Invertebral Disc Disease doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Invertebral Disc Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Invertebral Disc Disease doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Invertebral Disc Disease doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Invertebral Disc Disease doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Invertebral Disc Disease doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Invertebral Disc Disease doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Invertebral Disc Disease doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
