Dr. Joel R. Hoekema

Jeffrey Weinreb (“Wine-Reb”), MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who joined the office in 2023. He graduated from Brown University and attended medical school at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine after completing a spine surgery research fellowship at New York University. Dr. Weinreb then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at George Washington University followed by a spine surgery fellowship at the world-renowned University of Maryland Medical Center/Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.Dr. Weinreb’s focus is the diagnosis and treatment (both non-surgical and surgical) of the neck and back, including extensive training in minimally-invasive spine surgery. He believes in utilizing non-operative treatment whenever appropriate. Dr. Weinreb strongly believes in patient-centered care and shared-decision making to develop individualized treatment plans with each patient.Dr. Weinreb has published over 50 research papers and textbook chapters, often presenting his work at national meetings. He is especially interested in research determining which patients are most likely to benefit from surgical versus non-surgical treatments. He is a member of AO Spine, the American Academy for Orthopaedic surgeons, and is a former president of the American Medical Association New England Medical Student Section. Dr. Weinreb is trained in robot-assisted and computer navigated spine surgery.Dr. Weinreb moved to Whatcom County with his wife Jessie, two kids Seth and Elias, and dog Remy to be closer to family in the Pacific Northwest.
