Dr. Daniel Ocel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who joined a division of OCC - Cornerstone Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in 2005. He is fellowship-trained in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery and also practices general orthopedics and sports medicine. His approach centers on compassionate, individualized care tailored to each patient. Dr. Ocel graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Medicine, where he received a Health Professions Scholarship from the U.S. Navy. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago, earning the Weinstein Award as the outstanding chief resident. Following residency, Dr. Ocel served as head of orthopedic surgery at Naval Hospital Corpus Christi and was awarded the Naval-Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his service. He then moved to Sydney, Australia, to complete a foot and ankle fellowship with Dr. Martin Sullivan, caring for many of the country’s top professional and Olympic athletes. Dr. Leland completed fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and Orthopedic Trauma at University Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden, Germany. He subsequently returned to Detroit as Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery in the Department of Orthopedics at Wayne State University and Chief of Orthopedics at the VA Medical Center where he was twice awarded the Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Leland currently serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado and received the Colonel Alan Bucknell Award for Teacher of the Year in 2020.
