Evonne M. Morell, DO, is director of Inpatient General Pediatric Cardiology Services and director of Quality Improvement for General Cardiology at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is also an assistant professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. Since her appointment as an assistant professor of Pediatrics in 2011, Dr. Morell has transformed the inpatient general cardiology service at Children’s. She sought advanced training in quality improvement methodology, helped to develop a general cardiology quality improvement program at Children’s, and established herself as a local and national leader in quality improvement. Her current research focus is on quality improvement with projects focused on improving patient care in the acute care and outpatient settings. She also serves as Principal Investigator for an R01 to investigate application of cardiac MRI and Interventional Cardiac Magnetic Resonance on the care of pediatric heart transplant patients. This is a 4.5 million dollar, 5-year contract aimed at using CMR to guide interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, using less sedation for diagnostic CMR procedures and to advance diagnostic CMR capabilities to use less invasive testing.
