I double trained in my specialty, first in Poland and then in the United States. At Nemours I hope to expand my research and involve colleagues who are interested in rehabilitation for conditions that affect the brain and spinal cord. My board certification in pediatric rehabilitation is rare. There are fewer than 250 of us who are board-certified in the entire country. I was born in Poland at the tail end of the last polio epidemic. Children I grew up with were living with post-disease disabilities. When I was about 5 years old, I made up my mind that I would be a doctor who could help children and search for cures. Children are a joy to work with. They have phenomenal potential to bounce back if you give them a chance and the tools. I want to help every child that comes to me for care. My goal is to improve their quality of life to the highest degree possible. There is always a lot you can do to make a child’s life happier, no matter  where they’re starting from in their physical capabilities. Gaining function is like food: you need to eat every day to be nourished, and you must practice new skills every day to make meaningful progress with rehabilitation. I try to give families the tools and information they need to play and interact with their child in a purposeful way that reinforces the skills they're working on in therapy. I also try to make it fun so it will be easy to practice daily. Dr. Brandys is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Moebius Syndrome. Her top areas of expertise are Cerebral Palsy, Dopa-Responsive Dystonia, Aromatic L-Amino Acid Decarboxylase (AADC) Deficiency, and Familial Paroxysmal Nonkinesigenic Dyskinesia.

Dr. Elias is a native Floridian who grew up in Titusville. She went to medical school at the University of Miami School of Medicine and did her residency at Arnold Palmer Hospital. She also has a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. She has three children whose age span ranges from elementary school to young adult. Growing up, my role model was my father — a physician who practiced until he was 81 years old. But I chose children because I am grateful for the opportunity to make an impact on a child's development. I love all children, from babies to teenagers. As a parent myself, I like to mentor and help other parents deal with behavioral issues and getting past the tough toddler years. I’m passionate about good health and nutrition. I tend to take a whole-body approach to children’s healthcare and consider how nutrition, sleep and exercise can have an impact on their well-being. I make a point of giving each family and child the attention they deserve. I take the time to address all their concerns, knowing that every question is important. Dr. Elias is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Moebius Syndrome. Her top areas of expertise are Food Allergy, Common Cold, Obesity in Children, and Parainfluenza.

Medicine seems to run in my family. My father trained as a physician in Iceland, and my childhood was split between the US and Reykjavik, Iceland. At first, I wanted to be a veterinarian, but once in medical school I had my heart set on Pediatrics from the start. I love kids. With eight children of my own I have realized that every child is unique and that there is no one right way to parent. Parents can be certain that I will be upfront with them regarding their child’s illness. I treat people the way I want to be treated when I step into a physician’s office with one of my kids. I try to listen more than I speak and learn from others at every opportunity. To me the treatment of a child is a collaboration between the child, his/her parents and the physician and team at Nemours. Together we will find the best solution, always. Dr. Sigurdardottir is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Moebius Syndrome. Her top areas of expertise are Seizures, Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure, Memory Loss, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

What is the definition of Moebius Syndrome?

Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological condition that primarily affects the muscles that control facial expression and eye movement. The signs and symptoms of this condition are present from birth.

When should I see a Moebius Syndrome doctor near Orlando, FL?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Moebius Syndrome doctor near Orlando, FL?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Moebius Syndrome doctors near Orlando, FL?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Moebius Syndrome doctors near Orlando, FL?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Moebius Syndrome doctor near Orlando, FL?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Moebius Syndrome doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Moebius Syndrome doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Moebius Syndrome doctor near Orlando, FL?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Moebius Syndrome doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Moebius Syndrome doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Moebius Syndrome doctors near Orlando, FL?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Moebius Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Moebius Syndrome doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Moebius Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
