
Overview
Dr. Zimering is a fellowship-trained spine neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. A native of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, he attended the prestigious Pingry School and graduated as an Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar. He earned his BA, Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year as a testament to his exceptional academic achievements.
He earned his medical degree with distinction in research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Between his second and third years of medical school, he was awarded a renowned Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Medical Research Fellowship to conduct translational neuroscience research at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Zimering completed his neurological surgery residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and served as Chief Resident in his final year. After residency, he further pursued subspecialized fellowship training in complex spine surgery at Northwell Health.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Zimering has a particular interest in studying the pathophysiologic mechanisms of spinal pain. His research work has been published in top scientific and medical journals including Science Translational Medicine, Science Signaling, PAIN, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurosurgery. His confocal microscopy image of a dorsal root ganglion underlying chronic pain, Hope in a Sea of Pain, was featured in Scientists Reveal the Art of the Brain in The Lancet.
