Dr. Eric S. Secrist
Overview
Eric Secrist, MD, was born and raised in Washington and spent a decade receiving his medical training on the east coast before returning home to begin his practice. This included training with the Rothman Institute and OrthoCarolina, two of the largest private practice orthopedic groups in the country. He also received fellowship training at the Carilion Clinic focusing on hip and knee replacements and revisions, with a particular focus on the anterior approach to the hip. His philosophy is focused on treating each patient as an individual and empowering them to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. He works closely with a large team to ensure that all nonoperative treatment is attempted before considering surgery. If patients elect to move forward with surgery, he works closely with primary care providers to evaluate the whole patient – not just their orthopedic condition – and optimize their physical and mental health before surgery. During surgery, he employs a multimodal approach incorporating pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management to help patients take as few opioids as possible and speed their road to recovery. The best part of his job is when people come back to his clinic with photos of themselves enjoying an activity they couldn’t do before their surgery. If you do – be prepared for him to ask for copies! Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife Taylre who is a physical therapist at Proliance Skagit Northwest Physical Therapy, as well as their two children. He also enjoys running, skiing, enjoying the many outdoor activities Washington offers, and following PNW sports teams, particularly the University of Washington.

She strives to treat the person instead of just the injury, because that is when you can really make a difference.Before she began fighting orthopedic injuries, she was fighting fires as a volunteer firefighter. While orthopedic surgery isn’t always a life or death situation, it can certainly be exciting. There are few things she finds more rewarding than making a significant difference in improving a patient’s quality of life.Dr. Smith and her husband love to spend time outdoors. Whether they are snow skiing, horseback riding, or taking walks along the river with their son and dogs, they enjoy the beauty of the Northwest. She also enjoys ethnic foods, especially Thai.
