I am an orthopaedic surgeon and do total hip replacements, total knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, and orthopaedic trauma. We normally start with non-operative treatments, which are fairly low-risk. When those fail, then surgery becomes the only or best option. I like that orthopaedics can take patients who are debilitated, in a great deal of pain, frequently can’t sleep at night, and restore a great deal of function and improve their quality of life. It’s incredibly rewarding. Duke has a great deal of expertise and there are very few things you can’t get addressed here and in the best manner possible.
