Anthony Gannon, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician and internist who specializes in endocrine disorders for children and adults. His practice is geared towards treatment of complex endocrine disease, endocrine tumors and helping teenagers transition to adult care. I chose to train as a pediatric endocrinologist because I consider it a privilege and joy to work together with children and their families with the goal of helping them to better understand and control their diseases.I see the purpose of my practice to teach and empower children and families so that they can achieve their goals in treatment and in life. My practice is unique in that I am also a practicing adult endocrinologist. This means I’m able to provide clinical follow-up to children as they become adults, and also to help prepare them, and their families, for the transition into adult clinics. I specialized in endocrinology because the hormone systems are complicated, but fascinating, and I think there’s tremendous opportunity to improve the quality of life for patients. I’m interested in working with children of all ages who have complex endocrine disease, including endocrine tumors.I chose to complete separate pediatric and adult training programs so that I could be best equipped to assist children and their families to move more smoothly through the transition process into adult clinics. I am excited to be part of the Nemours Children’s Health System because this has enabled me to partner with Christiana Care Health System to form a true endocrinology transitions program. Endocrinology is a unique field because there is no single answer for every family, and this allows a lot of room for personalization of care. I think the most valuable tool I have to offer families is to provide education and empower them to manage their diseases and to achieve the goals that are most important to them. Dr. Gannon is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG). He is also highly rated in 22 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), Pediatric Growth Hormone Deficiency, Diabetes Insipidus (DI), and Neurohypophyseal Diabetes Insipidus. Dr. Gannon is board certified in American Board Of Internal Medicine.

As a doctor who treats children with cancer and chronic blood diseases, I don’t just treat the disease itself. I try to help the children and families I care for understand the illness, and find ways to cope so they can make the most of every day. I enjoy helping kids and nurturing them – and forming close relationships with families as they navigate their way through serious illness. Improving a child’s quality of life is one of the most satisfying things we try to do each day, and seeing a child become a productive, happy adult is what we live for. As health care professionals, our mission is to do what’s best for our patients, and that priority comes first. I grew up in the New York City area. As a child, I was something of a science geek. I enjoyed applying what I learned to real life situations. As a pediatric cancer specialist, I always focus on helping kids with cancer and brain tumors enjoy the best possible quality of life. I have tremendous respect for the children in my care. Although most are very sick, they handle adversity amazingly well. They don’t complain and just want to be done with treatment so they can go on with their lives. I try to make a difference through hope and healing. The fact that Nemours is so active in cancer research means we have access to experimental treatment options that offer real hope for a cure. Just as important, we do everything we can to make a terrible process less terrible by alleviating any suffering. I am passionate about educating and guiding pediatric oncology survivors to be knowledgeable about their health. In order to achieve this, I received my master’s in nursing from University of Pennsylvania Graduate Nursing Program, with a focus in pediatric oncology. This was the first program in the country with a focus in pediatric oncology. I am from the Wilmington area, and from a large family (one of eight). As a child, two of my sisters were diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This had a big impact on me, watching them go through treatment. At the time of their treatment, there were no central lines/Zofran for nausea. It was a very different time and hard to watch. I became a nurse and worked with Dr. Rita Meek in her office. Dr. Meek was the first pediatric oncologist to arrive in Wilmington. Later in life, my older sister developed breast cancer and heart failure, which was a direct result of her past treatment. At the time, people were unfamiliar with these side effects. This led me to pursue my master’s at the University of Pennsylvania and develop the first survivorship program in Wilmington. The goal of the program is to help survivors live healthy lives and transition to adulthood. My passion is educating survivors of cancer. We do this in our clinic on a daily basis.  I’ve also conducted several research studies in the survivorship clinic, assessing levels of knowledge about the disease and making the transition to adulthood/learning. The three studies resulted in journal publications. I am a faculty advisor for the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate Nursing Program oncology track, and am passionate about helping educate nurses to be excellent and to advocate for our patients. Our psychology colleagues join us in the survivorship clinic to help with assessing learning, and providing school support and overall wellness. We also work closely with cardiology. We developed a wellness approach to protecting the heart after exposure to cancer treatment. We also are working with the cardiology staff to evaluate the usefulness of exercise stress tests to assess heart damage, sooner rather than later. Dr. Quillen is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG). Her clinical expertise encompasses Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma, Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG), and Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). I have always loved science and medicine and knew from an early age that I wanted to be in medicine. It is one of the greatest privileges to care for patients and help their families during their cancer treatment. I have always known that I wanted to work with children. Even when dealing with sickness, children have this uncanny ability to find the humor and positivity in all situations. I am passionate about taking the very best care of children and their families in every single interaction I have with them. I am passionate in continuing to improve the care and outcomes of children with cancer and blood disorders through clinical trials and research. I have a particular interest in treating children with leukemia and want to make improvements in every aspect of their care through clinical trials.I also have an interest in improving patient care and clinical research by finding innovative uses of the electronic health record to collect data about how patients are doing on treatment. I also focus on improving the safe delivery of chemotherapy medications. Dr. Gresh is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG). Even at the start of my medical training, I knew I wanted to be in a field where I get to work with children. After my first child was born premature and required NICU-level care, that experience only intensified my desire to work with kids. Having a child requiring medical care is both scary and stressful. As a pediatric radiologist, my goal is to help alleviate those feelings for parents and children by providing the best radiology service and making it as kid friendly as possible. Pediatric radiology is a perfect fit for me. As a pediatric radiologist, I get to work as a consultant with many clinicians in different pediatric fields. Though radiologists are often behind the scenes, we play a vital role in diagnosing the problem, so that children can be treated and feel better. I am passionate about all areas of pediatric radiology including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging and body imaging. I also work with all modalities including X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI. One of my roles as a radiologist is as a consultant, working with clinicians to ensure that we do the best test with the lowest radiation possible. As radiologists, we are always working to come up with new imaging techniques that can avoid or lower radiation and be more kid friendly. I care for children both at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital and the Nemours Deptford Specialty Care and Surgery Center. At our Deptford location, you may see me involved in fluoroscopy, ultrasound and X-ray. I also perform joint injections for MRI arthrograms at our Deptford location, many which are performed to evaluate sports injuries, joint pain or congenital abnormalities. When should I see a Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor near Wilmington, DE?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor near Wilmington, DE?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctors near Wilmington, DE?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctors near Wilmington, DE?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor near Wilmington, DE?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor near Wilmington, DE?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more.
