Dr. Robert K. Mahaffey

Coming from a family of physicians, Dr. Ume Kakwan knew from a young age that she would pursue medicine. She chose her specialty in geriatric medicine to address a great need in the United States to care for an aging population. 'As people age, their needs change,' she said. 'At MatureWell we're given the opportunity to spend more time with our elderly patients and move beyond traditional medicine to attend to the whole family.' Dr. Kakwan describes her most professionally rewarding experience as each day that she has an opportunity to help transition patients who have been in the hospital back to the comfort of their home. She has served patients in our community as a physician for 17 years. In 2011, she completed additional education in Geriatric Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She holds her Bachelor of Medicine degree from Fatima Jinnah Medical College and her post-graduate degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan. She completed clinical residencies in several specialty areas, including a residency in Family Practice at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In her spare time, Dr. Kakwan enjoys spending time with her two school-aged children, gardening and cooking and volunteering in local nursing homes.
