Most problems can be treated conservatively, with surgery being viewed as a final but effective option. | Why I entered medicine | My grandfather was a family doctor who died well before I was born. My father told me stories about him when I was young. Many involved Dad joining my grandfather on house visits in the middle of the night. He would even leave patients money for their prescriptions as he left them for the night.
