Yram J. Groff, MD, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was honored with the Sankey Award for Excellence in Orthopaedics. Dr. Groff completed his internship in general surgery, residency in orthopaedic surgery, and fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at UPMC. Dr. Groff was honored with the Most Outstanding Resident Award. He has authored numerous papers and has given academic presentations on a wide variety of topics. Dr. Groff is clinical instructor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Qualified to evaluate and treat the entire spectrum of orthopaedic problems, Dr. Groff specializes in sports-related injuries and disease of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Groff is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Miele’s major clinical interests embrace many aspects of neurosurgery, but are focused on spinal disorders including pathologies associated with degeneration and trauma, complex spinal instrumentation, and spine tumors. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive spine surgery and the newer motion preservation technologies as well as the larger surgeries required for conditions such as adolescent/adult spinal deformity and the multidisciplinary treatment of spinal tumors. Dr. Miele also has a strong background in cranial neurosurgery and treats peripheral nerve conditions such as carpel tunnel syndrome. Dr. Miele also has a strong interest in sports-related head and spine injuries, and works at a national level with athletes on return to play issues. He is involved in the development of devices used to detect and prevent concussion and is frequently invited to speak on this subject nationally. Dr. Miele received his undergraduate degree at Northeastern University in Boston where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Rho Chi Academic Pharmacy Honor Society as well as the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He was also awarded the Northeastern University Alumni of the Year President’s Award in 2001. Dr. Miele completed medical school and his neurosurgical residency at West Virginia University where he was elected to the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha and won the Gandee-Massey Award based on academic achievement. He is fellowship trained in complex spine surgery from Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he remains adjunct faculty in the Spine Research Laboratory. Vincent Miele, MD, specializes in neurosurgery and is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He practices at University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Department of Neurosurgery and is affiliated with UPMC Williamsport, UPMC Mercy, UPMC East, UPMC McKeesport, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. He completed his fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and his residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he also earned his medical degree.
