Benjamin S. Harris, M.D., M.P.H, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) and board eligible in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). Born in Durham and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Dr. Harris earned his undergraduate degree, Doctor of Medicine, and Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed his residency training in OB/GYN at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, where he served as an Administrative Chief Resident. From there, Dr. Harris continued his training at Duke University Medical Center to complete his fellowship in REI. During this time, Dr. Harris was recognized for his excellence in research, education, and leadership. Dr. Harris is an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and serves as the associate program director of the SGF Jones Institute fellowship for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He also serves as the director of research for the SGF Southern Virginia region. As a researcher, Dr. Harris has contributed to numerous publications and presentations exploring such topics as ovarian reserve testing, assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes, and reproductive epidemiology. Dr. Harris is committed to evidence-based fertility practice, continuous improvement, and advancing the field through research and innovation. In his clinical practice, Dr. Harris enjoys helping patients build their families and plan their reproductive future. His clinical interests include fertility preservation, oncofertility, third-party reproduction, and caring for patients with diminished ovarian reserve. During this time, Dr. Banks received the 2013 ASRM Corporate Member Council In-training Travel Award, where she ultimately contributed to four ASRM presentations on topics including intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), structural abnormalities of the Y chromosome, and gene mutations. Dr. Banks then completed a second fellowship at NIH in reproductive endocrinology. A passionate researcher, Dr. Banks has contributed to medical publications focusing on subjects such as endometriosis and fertility preservation, contraceptive technologies, and the effects of ovarian reserve and early menopause. She is also a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Banks currently sees patients at SGF Jones Institute in Norfolk, Virginia. In her free time, she enjoys tackling bucket list items like recently hiking to the Old Rag Summit in Shanandoah National Park (rock scramble and all), decorating cakes for friends and family, and spending time with family.
