Philosophy of care | I strive to develop a professional relationship with my patients and explain the diagnosis and treatment of their illness as we collaborate on a care plan. I discuss the risks and benefits of procedures and medications so they understand their chronic illness and prognosis. It's also important patients have a say in any changes in the plan of care. I try to anticipate their needs and get other services involved to keep them at home and out of the hospital. | Why I entered medicine | I served in the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. I saw how much community members cared for each other, especially for the sick and elderly, but there was insufficient medical resources or knowledge to make an impact. When I got back to the U.S., I worked very hard to get into medical school.
