Philosophy of care | My philosophy revolves around optimizing quality of life through minimally invasive options. I was fortunate during my training to work with nationally recognized surgeons, leading to experience in complex gynecologic care and allowing me to be an early adopter of minimally invasive options. Such advances give patients same-day options that allow them to return to their busy lives faster. I have advocated in many hospital systems for laparoscopy, robotics, minimally invasive procedures for incontinence and office-based procedures. Minimal pain, faster recovery and cutting-edge technology is the platform for all my patient care. Many are not aware that a simple solution exists for what is often an embarrassing topic to discuss. | Why I entered medicine | As a child, I was inspired by my father, who practiced medicine. As I pursued a medical career, I recognized immediately how much I was drawn to surgery and women's health. As a doctor and working mother, I focused on learning approaches that would bring more women back to their family life expeditiously. Today I have the privilege of making a profound impact on the lives of my patients. Through my ongoing pursuit of the latest in research, innovation and technology, I strive to limit pain, cure disease and improve the overall health and well-being of many women. | Personal interests | I enjoy spending time with family. I am fond of the outdoors, enjoying activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, paddleboarding and kayaking. I also love to cook, travel and read in my free time. Dr. Ailawadi is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Urinary Incontinence. Her top areas of expertise are Rectocele, Stress Urinary Incontinence, Uterine Prolapse, and Urinary Incontinence.

Philosophy of care | I like to focus on patient education. When patients are educated on their disease process, it empowers them. Patient participation and empowerment means they can share their opinions, knowledge, experience and expectations with health professionals to make informed decisions. This can only improve satisfaction with the care they are receiving. | Why I entered medicine | I'm a people person. I started in an engineering career but switched to medicine because I wanted to help people and form long-lasting relationships with them. I find this much more rewarding than sitting at a desk all day in front of a computer. | Community involvement | I have a son with autism. I am involved in local autism groups and volunteer for the Special Olympics. | Personal interests | I love to cook and make most of the meals for my family. I enjoy exercising daily. I love to ski, hike and travel. I am an avid Formula One fan and enjoy traveling to one race each year. Philosophy of care | Listening is important. That's the most helpful to patients. You get the most insight into their personality. Communication is also important -- not only with the patient, but with the patient's family, and especially in the hospital or nursing home. Good communication goes a long way. I've been doing this for more than 10 years, and you build a relationship with your patients. I like to catch up, see how they're doing, ask about their family, vacations. | Why I entered medicine | My father was a doctor, and that had an impact on me when I was growing up. | Personal interests | My greatest passion in life is my family -- my wife and my two daughters. That's the most important thing to me. I spend a lot of time with the family, and I like to fish. We're big Eagles fans, and I have season tickets. Philosophy of care | My philosophy is to provide compassionate informative care such that a patient will be able to make informed decisions about her medical care. I hope to build solid relationship with my patients, and let this be the foundation of their care. | Why I entered medicine | I chose to go into the field of OB/GYN as it would allow me to help take care of women throughout their entire life spectrum of gynecology needs. From a personal standpoint, this field of medicine allows me to have a varied work day, from seeing patients in the office to being in the operating room to helping deliver babies, which I enjoy immensely. Philosophy of care | My goal is to prevent disease and treat existing conditions while improving your quality of life. I also believe in a whole-person approach to care because your quality of life is much more than a diagnosis – it includes your passions, family, friends, mental and physical health, as well as your future goals. I believe that by collaborating and working together, we can help you achieve your goals and improve your wellness. I am particularly interested in the dynamic interactions between family members and how to help families grow healthy and strong together. | Why I entered medicine | Very early in my life as a mother, I witnessed the powerful impact that physicians play in the experience of life and death for their patients. It inspired me to become a doctor so that I could positively impact lives around me. Also, I knew that whatever profession I pursued, I wanted to both provide an example of service to my young children, and feel that time spent away from them was contributing to something greater than myself. | Community involvement | I spend time volunteering and contributing to local family wellness. I do this through fund/resource raising for local charities, volunteering my time in parenting support classes, working with local diaper banks, and visiting elementary schools to teach children about wellness. | Personal interests | My husband and I are blessed to have three sons ranging from toddler to teenager. Philosophy of care | I strongly support patient autonomy. I see part of my job as providing information, discussing treatment options and helping women make choices they feel is best for them. Supporting my patients' informed decisions is integral. I give my patients the advice I want my wife, mother and daughter to receive from their gynecologists. I'm compassionate and practice evidence-based medicine. | Why I entered medicine | Obstetrics and gynecology provides an opportunity to practice lifelong continuity, preventive medicine, primary care and medical-surgical treatment. Sharing the experience of childbirth with a family is tremendously rewarding. | Community involvement | I spent a total of 12 years in the U.S. Army, eight of those years as an OB/GYN. The leadership and training I received were invaluable and provided me with a solid foundation. Along with other LVHN heath care providers, I have visited Haiti twice in 2017 working with The Haiti Health Trust. I also participate in the Haiti Medical Education project and video-lecture medical and nursing students as well as OBGYN residents throughout Haiti. | Personal interests | In my spare time, I do whatever my kids ask me to do. If I were not practicing medicine, I would be a tornado chaser or auditioning for the E Street Band. Becoming a super-delegate would also have perks. What is the definition of Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary (or bladder) incontinence occurs when you are not able to keep urine from leaking out of your urethra. The urethra is the tube that carries urine out of your body from your bladder. You may leak urine from time to time. Or, you may not be able to hold any urine.

The three main types of urinary incontinence are:

      • Stress incontinence -- occurs during activities like coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise.
      • Urge incontinence -- occurs as a result of a strong, sudden need to urinate immediately. Then the bladder squeezes and you lose urine. You don't have enough time after you feel the urge to urinate to get to the bathroom before you begin urinating.
      • Overflow incontinence -- occurs when the bladder does not empty and the volume of urine exceeds its capacity. This leads to dribbling.

Mixed incontinence occurs when you have more than one type of incontinence, usually both stress and urge urinary incontinence.

Bowel incontinence is when you are unable to control the passage of stool. It is not covered in this article.

When should I see a Urinary Incontinence doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Urinary Incontinence doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Urinary Incontinence doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Urinary Incontinence doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Urinary Incontinence doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Urinary Incontinence doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Urinary Incontinence doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Urinary Incontinence doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Urinary Incontinence doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Urinary Incontinence doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Urinary Incontinence doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Urinary Incontinence doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Urinary Incontinence doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Urinary Incontinence doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
