Overview
Dr. Herati is a urologist with fellowship training in male infertility and andrology. He has specialized training to perform complex reconstructions of the reproductive system, including vasectomy reversal with vasovasostomy and vasoepididymostomy. Additionally, he has an interest in treating patients with chronic prostatitis and pelvic pain, as well as patients experiencing low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Of note, he has the ability to perform fertility treatments on patients who have experienced spinal cord injuries using nonsurgical methods of sperm extraction. Dr. Herati believes in an individualized approach to care that addresses the whole patient. He invests significant time into building a rapport with his patients so that they feel comfortable opening up about these issues, allowing him to accurately identify and manage each patient’s needs. His research interests include decoding the genetic basis of male infertility, investigating the impact of referred pain from peripheral nerves to the bladder, and characterizing the effects of low testosterone on prostate inflammation and PSA screening. Cigdem (“Cori”) Tanrikut, MD, FACS, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed her urologic surgery residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/Harvard Medical School, and then continued on to Weill Cornell Medical College in New York to pursue a fellowship in male infertility and microsurgery. Upon completing her fellowship training, she became the Director of Male Reproductive Medicine at the MGH Fertility Center. While at Harvard, she was an Associate Professor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School. In 2015, she was named the Quality Chair for the MGH Department of Urology, and in 2017, she became the President of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology. Dr. Tanrikut’s research endeavors include assessing how lifestyle and medications may impact male reproductive health, sperm banking trends, and sperm-related factors to optimize fertility treatment outcomes.
