Within my field of gastroenterology, I have a special interest in acute and chronic liver disease and short gut syndrome. Many of my patients require a liver and / or small bowel transplant and it is extremely rewarding to see the improvement in their health and quality of life after this happens. Having said this, I think that having good communication is a key component of my relationship with patients as a physician.
