I was born in Iran, moved to Germany at age 18 for college, and have lived in the United States since 1992. I’ve always been close to my parents, brothers and sister. Our relationship gave me a sense of respect for the concept of family that is reflected in the way I treat patients and families today. My interest in cardiology began when I was just eight or nine years old reading a schoolbook about heart function; I decided then and there on my career. I chose to work with children because of their great need and limited ability to express themselves. It’s rewarding to connect and understand what they’re trying to say. Because children are very delicate, I insist on precision with every service I provide. I’m also passionate about getting the diagnosis right. Sometimes parents bring their child to me after multiple doctors have given up trying to diagnose them. I like the challenge and the opportunity to provide treatment that will help. Many of my patients — for example, kids with congenital heart conditions — must be treated over a period of months or even years. I try to really manage their condition and help their family be part of the care team. I’m also interested in providing medicine that has been lacking in Florida. Dysautonomia, a nervous system disorder, is one of them. Dr. Kakavand is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Williams Syndrome. He is also highly rated in 41 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Familial Neurocardiogenic Syncope, Ectopic Heartbeat, Fainting, and Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia (IST). Dr. Kakavand is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.

Dr. Yalim Yalcin graduated from Istanbul University School of Medicine in 1990. He trained in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology in N.Y. He is a board certified pediatric interventional cardiologist with more than 20 years of experience in a wide range of interventional procedures and devices that are currently on the market. My father was a doctor. I grew up in an environment that appreciated both the difficulties and the spiritual satisfaction of helping people heal. I always wanted to be a doctor, and thought it was a great way to help people. During medical school and my internship year I realized that kids were very vulnerable. When their children were sick, families were hopeless and looking for help desperately. Helping a child to heal and smile, and being there for the families during difficult times was a great feeling. This is why I became a pediatrician. Being a pediatric cardiologist, most of the time we are dealing with serious, life-threatening conditions. So we need to be passionate about the safety and quality of the services that we provide. We should be able to deliver the best practices to our patients and their families. That requires us to be up to date with new treatments and continuous medical education. This is definitely a collaborative team effort, with colleagues trained and experienced in treating babies, small children, adolescents and even grown-up adults with congenital heart disease. We all need to be precise and should practice the safest and best quality medicine. It is very important that we are able to help others that can’t reach us and therefore can’t get the quality treatment they need. This is why I have been traveling to underserved areas in countries like North Macedonia and Azerbaijan for medical missions to treat and help children with heart conditions there who are not able to get the treatment options they should have. Dr. Yalcin is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Williams Syndrome. He is also highly rated in 19 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Pulmonary Supravalvular Stenosis, Pulmonary Valve Stenosis, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, and Heart Murmurs. I was born in Germany. As a kid I was curious, adventurous, and wanted to be an architect. I had a strong desire to help people, especially those in developing countries. I decided the best way for me to help people was to become a doctor. In medical school, I trained three months in Lesotho, South Africa, and while working with many U.S. physicians, decided the best place to train would be the U.S. Working with children doesn’t feel like work at all. It’s pure fun. Also, I like being part of a team to help children get better. Just to see them walk out of the hospital, often cured and happy, is worth all the effort. My passion is fetal cardiology. Working in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team, I try to help expecting moms decide the best route of treatment for their baby’s heart condition. I feel it’s important to relay the information in understandable terms and to give the family the big picture of what to expect for their baby’s future. With each patient, I try to work in the moment – making them the center of my attention. I feel it's my duty to provide excellent care and compassion. Growing up in Costa Rica, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. Later while I was in medical school in the United States, I decided to specialize in pediatrics so I could help children with kidney problems. I like that Nemours is an environment where there’s lots of collaboration to help patients and lots of support for their families. It makes my day when I can make children feel better, make them smile and interact with them. Working with children and their families is so rewarding. Helping children with very severe kidney problems get all the way to transplantation and then seeing them through the process. I love watching them do so well and feel so much better afterwards. It’s very motivating. It’s important to me that our patients have access to the most innovative care possible. For my patients’ sake, I try to practice in the most evidence-based way possible and to stay actively involved with the dialysis and kidney transplant community. What is the definition of Williams Syndrome?

Williams syndrome is a rare disorder that can lead to problems with development.

When should I see a Williams Syndrome doctor in Florida, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Williams Syndrome doctor in Florida, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Williams Syndrome doctors in Florida, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Williams Syndrome doctors in Florida, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Williams Syndrome doctor in Florida, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Williams Syndrome doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Williams Syndrome doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Williams Syndrome doctor in Florida, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Williams Syndrome doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Williams Syndrome doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Williams Syndrome doctors in Florida, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Williams Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Williams Syndrome doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Williams Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
