I mainly treat patients with genitourinary cancers including prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular and penile cancer.  My goal is to be attentive and devoted to my patients who are often dealing with complicated health problems. I try to personalize my care because every patient is different. I believe the future is promising because new treatments are being discovered every day. I am involved in clinical trials done through Duke University.  Clinical trials are designed to provide patients with access to the newest possible treatments. I am also part of our multi-disciplinary cancer team including urologic oncologists, geneticists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and other specialists.  I grew up in Cary and did all of my medical training in the Research Triangle Park area. I feel honored to practice in the same community I have lived in for more than twenty-five years. As a medical oncologist and hematologist, I treat patients with common adult solid and hematologic cancers. My passion for cancer treatment is deeply rooted back to my childhood when I witnessed loved ones suffering from this devastating disease. As such, I share with patients and their families the feeling of desperation, pain and stress. In my view, cancer treatment is not only a medicine but also an art, as a physician needs to be sensitive to both the patient's physical, and emotional needs to keep their hope for getting better alive. I have particular interests in gastrointestinal malignancies, like esophageal, stomach, small bowel, colon, pancreatic, biliary and liver cancer. I provide my patients with evidence-based and the most advanced treatment options, including participating in clinical trial opportunities. Dr. Wang is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes. His top areas of expertise are Familial Colorectal Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, Familial Prostate Cancer, and Thrombocytopenia.

Prior to arriving at Duke, I was faculty at UT Southwestern where I had a dual appointment at the North Texas VA for 10 years. During this time, I was one of the highest volume robotic VA surgeons treating veterans with urologic cancer in addition to my clinic practice at UTSW. I joined the Urology department at Duke in 2024. At Duke, I have continued my focus on urologic oncology, specifically prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. I have a particular interest in prostate cancer. I was one of the earliest adopters of a novel surgical technique termed the Retzius Sparing Prostatectomy, which allows for the earlier return urinary control. I have further adopted a novel technique for the treatment of localized prostate cancer known as irreversible electroporation (IRE). This technique is a form of focal therapy for carefully selected patients. The advantages of IRE include less urinary and sexual side effects than conventional prostate cancer treatments. In addition, my clinical expertise includes advanced robotic reconstruction of the upper urinary tract. These procedures involve using segments of bowel or buccal grafts (inner lining of the cheek) to reconstruct damaged ureters. Dr. Gahan is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes. His top areas of expertise are Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), Enlarged Prostate (BPH), UPJ Obstruction, Nephrectomy, and Prostatectomy.

When should I see a WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Cary, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Cary, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How do I find the best WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Cary, NC?

You can find a WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor in any of the 10 largest U.S. cities by clicking below:

WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near New York, NY
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Los Angeles, CA
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Chicago, IL
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Houston, TX
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Phoenix, AZ
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Philadelphia, PA
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Atlanta, GA
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Boston, MA
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Dallas, TX
WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near San Jose, CA

How does MediFind rank WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctors near Cary, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctors near Cary, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Cary, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor near Cary, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my WT1-Related Wilms Tumor Syndromes doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.
