Dr. Juan Carlos Varela is a board-certified and fellowship-trained physician specializing in hematology and oncology with the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy program at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. He has successfully translated novel immunotherapeutic approaches from the bench to the bedside and has been the leader in multiple first-in-human studies of novel T-cell therapies in hematologic malignancies. His research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed publications on topics including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, acute myelogenous leukemia and adoptive T cell immunotherapy.
