Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Dr. Levy is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Digestive Health and Liver Diseases and is the Associate Director of the Schiff Center for Liver Diseases at the University of Miami. She was awarded the Arthur Hertz Endowed Chair in Liver Diseases. Dr. Levys clinical research program focuses on autoimmune and cholestatic liver diseases, and in the study of porphyrias. She is particularly interested in clinical trial development and conduct. Dr. Levy is a member of the steering committees for the International Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis Study group (IPSCSG), the Global PBC study group and the Cholestatic and Autoimmune Liver Diseases SIG in AASLD and serves as an advisor for several patient support groups and foundations. She is currently the chair elect for the AASLD Practice Guidelines Committee. Dr Levys expertise is recognized internationally. Dr. Levy received her M.D. from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She completed house staff training both at her home University and subsequently at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miami, FL. Dr. Levy completed her 3-year Gastroenterology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a 1-year Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at University of Florida, in Gainesville, FL.
