Benjamin MacQueen, MD is a Fellowship Trained, Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a Subspecialty in Sports Medicine. He specializes in Arthroscopic Surgery for Sports Injuries including Knee Ligament Reconstruction and Cartilage Restoration Procedures, Shoulder Stabilization procedures, and Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery. He is also trained in both Anatomic and Reverse Total Shoulder Replacements. He sees patients and athletes of all ages with a focus on orthopedic conditions involving the shoulder or knee.Dr. MacQueen is a former 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He attended Medical School at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He completed his Fellowship in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at the Orthopedic Research of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. He is currently the team physician for Casteel High School and sits on the Dignity Health Quality Control Committee for Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional Medical Centers.Dr. MacQueen enjoys attending various sporting events with his wife and their five children, in addition to playing golf and softball in his spare time.Dr. MacQueen believes in focusing his treatment plan on the patient's individual needs. He understands that everyone is different in how they get injured and in how they respond to various treatments. He does not treat patients based solely on an x-ray or MRI, as he considers the patient's goals and lifestyle in the treatment plan as well.

I always loved science, but I also wanted to be able to interact with people; medicine is the perfect combination of the two. Many careers in science are spent in a lab supplying little interaction with others. I really enjoy getting to know my patients, sharing laughs with them, and watching them improve. Orthopedics, in particular, offered the chance to make a real improvement in the lives of my patients. Pain and suffering are terrible things, and often in orthopedics we really get to be a part of alleviating these grievances for our patients. Hand and upper extremity surgery was fascinating to me because of the complex anatomy and the importance of our hands in everyday life. My approach to hand and upper extremity surgery has a conservative slant. A lot of times we can generate complete relief of common conditions with splints, occupational therapy, or injections. Only after patients have demonstrated failure to improve with less invasive techniques do we discuss surgery. During my training in Boston, I learned many modern and less invasive surgical techniques. For many patients, these procedures can be done under local or regional anesthesia without the risk of general anesthesia. In some surgeries, blood thinners can even be continued. During my training at Boston Children's Hospital, I learned the care of the pediatric upper extremity from some of the world's foremost experts. I am very delighted to be able to bring this training to serve the needs of our youngest Phoenicians. Dr. Stanbury is highly rated in 9 conditions, according to our data.
