Dr. Bryan J. Winn is an ophthalmologist who specializes in oculoplastic surgery: treating disorders of the eyelid, tear drainage system, and orbit (cavity containing the eye). He also performs aesthetic rejuvenation procedures for the face. He takes pride in offering compassionate care that combines his clinical expertise with a warm bedside manner. Winn studies how the environment, nutrition and the human microbiome (all the microorganisms living on and inside a human body) may play roles in chronic inflammatory eye and orbital diseases. Winn earned his medical degree at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at UCSF and a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in Seattle, sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Prior to joining UCSF, Winn served as chief of oculoplastic and orbital surgery at Columbia University. He now also serves as chief of ophthalmology for San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System and a vice chair in the ophthalmology department at UCSF. Winn has published more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles and several book chapters. He frequently lectures at meetings around the globe. He is a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, North American Society of Academic Orbital Surgeons and International Thyroid Eye Disease Society.
