Dr. “Nate” Nessle received his medical degree at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Denver, Colorado. He completed his general pediatrics training with the University of Louisville at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky and practiced as an outpatient private practice general pediatrician. Dr. Nate then moved his family to Ann Arbor Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship training at the University of Michigan, where he received research training in a National Cancer Institute T32 in Cancer Care Delivery. Dr. Nate then accepted a Fogarty Global Health Research Fellow position, with the North Pacific Global Health Fogarty Fellowship through the Fogarty International Center, to conduct supportive care implementation science research in children with cancer alongside his Kenyan colleagues in Eldoret, Kenya. He wants to improve the cancer journey for kids and their families and believes no kid with cancer should die from a fever.Dr. Nessle is married to a special education trained hospital teacher, who desires to teach English to displaced peoples and refugees. Together, they have three active, joyful, outgoing children; two biological and one non-biological through international adoption from the Philippines. They moved their family of five to Kenya in 2022 and continue to split time between Kenya and few months in Michigan. They are active in local community engagement and members of their local church.As a family, they enjoy adventures, trying new places, enjoying good and new food, and embracing new cultures. While in Kenya, they take advantage of the many national parks, enjoy safaris, and the great people and food in their city. They appreciate the four seasons of Michigan, frequent the lakes, orchards, and time with close friends and family in the area. Dr. Nate relaxes with wood working projects, hikes, football (soccer), good conversations, and wants to be a better fly fisherman.
