David Andes, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor. He’s also a professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Andes diagnoses and treats people with complex infectious diseases. Working as a medical detective of sorts, Dr. Andes often treats patients in the hospital setting who appear to have an infection and fever. Typically, their doctors have asked for help identifying and treating their illnesses. Dr. Andes and his colleagues use advanced knowledge and techniques to pinpoint a diagnosis and successfully treat infections.Dr. Andes’ clinical interests include understanding drug resistance, particularly in fungal infections. He’s also interested in infectious diseases that develop after organ transplants, as well as the ways drugs and the body affect each other.When not providing direct patient care, Dr. Andes research focuses on earning more about drug resistance and identifying new treatment strategies.During his free time, Dr. Andes enjoys spending time with his family and running.We work as quickly as possible to make an accurate diagnosis, find the right therapy and help our patients survive their infections.
