Overview
Dr. Edward Nicklas, MD, earned his medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and his endocrinology fellowship at University of Virginia. He enjoys the science and problem-solving aspects of medicine as well as forming relationships with his patients. While working in a biochemistry lab prior to medical school, he discovered that endocrinology would be the best fit for his skills and interests. He said many of his mentors were endocrinologists who influenced and inspired him. He realized that the specialty of endocrinology would allow him to treat a wide range of diseases and conditions. Dr. Nicklas takes an evidence-based approach to his practice, focusing on the patient's history and concerns, performing a physical exam and any necessary diagnostic testing, then “the patient and I work together as a team to determine a treatment plan,” Dr. Nicklas said. Board certified, Dr. Nicklas sees patients 18 years and older. His clinical interests are treating and managing thyroid cancer and thyroid nodules. Other conditions he manages include diabetes, as well as thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders. In his spare time, Dr. Nicklas enjoys endurance sports, reading and spending time with his family.
