Dr. Eric D. Strauch

Dr. Angela Kao is a specialty care physician board certified in pediatric surgery. She joins the pediatric surgery team at Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital. Dr. Kao is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Kao completed her general surgery residency at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. While in residency, she completed a research fellowship in minimally invasive surgery techniques and championed multiple surgical quality improvement initiatives. Following residency, she completed her pediatric surgery fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. During her time in fellowship, she learned specialized skills to care for infants and premature babies. Throughout her training, she refined her skills in the latest minimally invasive techniques for laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgeries. Dr. Kao has specific interests in surgical quality improvement and developing protocols to ensure safe and excellent surgical care for the children of Northern Virginia. She is proud to be a member of the American College of Surgeons verified Level I Children’s Surgery Center at Inova and is looking forward to taking on new roles as surgeon champion for the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. Outside the office, Dr. Kao enjoys exploring the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and all the food and culture it has to offer. "My dream at the age of 18 was to become a professional baseball player. I was All-Conference as a freshman at Ursinus College and majored in pre-med as a ""backup plan."" I transferred to Baylor University, and fortunately, as it turned out, I was not good enough to make the higher level team. I therefore concentrated all of my efforts into my academic studies. I had come to realize that my energies were better placed into working toward caring for others. When my mother-in-law developed breast cancer, I developed a passion for breast surgery and general surgery.What I want my patients to know about me:I try to care for you as I would want to be cared for. I have been happily married to my wife, Judy, for over 40 years. I have, as of today, three children and nine grandchildren, who I adore. I have been a part of the Gettysburg/Hanover community for nearly 30 years and as of April, 2024, I will be caring for patients in Chambersburg and Waynesboro areas. Over the years, my general surgical practice has evolved and has become limited to the treatment of breast and thyroid disease.What I do when I'm not seeing patients:I love outdoor activities like hiking. I spend most of my free time with my wife and grandkids. I love traveling, and love to go to the shore/beach.
