Dr. Imad M. Melhem

Imad M. Melhem MD, provides mental healthcare for children, adolescents, and adults. He is board certified in general, child and adolescent psychiatry and addiction medicine.|He specializes in mood and psychotic disorders, severe mental illness, autism spectrum disorders, substance use disorders and inpatient care.|Dr. Melhem’s certified physician executive credential and master’s degree in medical management underlie his commitment to leadership, transformation of healthcare delivery systems and improvement of the quality of care. He is particularly passionate about reaching underserved populations and creating community partnerships. He values collaboration and innovation to drive growth and transformation.|Joining Geisinger was not only an opportunity for Dr. Melhem to be close to loved ones in Pittsburgh, but it was also a chance to make a difference in rural and underserved communities. “The Geisinger mission and values are what brought me here as the chair of psychiatry and behavioral health,” he says. “I'm driven by the opportunities to improve access to quality mental health services in central and northeastern Pennsylvania.”|Dr. Melhem is particularly proud of the services and programs he has helped develop to target underserved populations. He enjoys teaching and working with learners at all levels of training and the development of the next generation of clinical leaders.|In his free time, Dr. Melhem enjoys spending time with his dogs and family in Pittsburgh, as well as hiking, gardening, reading and playing chess. He also enjoys traveling and he keeps up with international soccer competitions.
