Dr. J. Francis Turner, Jr. most recently served as the Director of Interventional Pulmonology & Pulmonary Rehabilitation at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming. Previously he completed his academic career as the Vice-Chair of Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee. He also served as a Senior Research Fellow at the National Supercomputing Institute-UNLV.He specializes in diseases of the lung and how lung and other cancers may interfere with breathing.Dr. Turner brings more than 40 years of medical experience to the SCL-IHS campus. Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and interventional pulmonology, he completed an additional year of Interventional Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock-Trauma Center and with Dr. Ko-Pen Wang, the inventor of transbronchial needle aspiration through the flexible bronchoscope and director of TBNA training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.A U.S. Army veteran, Dr. Turner has served as a Professor of Medicine and Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, Assistant Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, and Director of Interventional Pulmonology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.Dr. Turner has also been Director of Interventional Pulmonology at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, the Nevada Cancer Institute, and has been honored to be the Governor of Nevada for the American College of Chest Physicians.In addition to his medical and research roles, Dr. Turner is a frequent national and international speaker on interventional pulmonary and critical care issues and served as an editor and board member of the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. He was also appointed to be an International Consultant to the Chinese Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. An editor for the standard textbook in flexible bronchoscopy, he continues to edit and publish in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
