Dr. Niraj Chavan

Dr. Niraj Chavan is a maternal-fetal medicine physician who specializes in high-risk pregnancies, and in particular, substance use during pregnancy. Other areas of expertise include maternal medical complications, such as cardiovascular, neurological, renal and autoimmune conditions, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, preterm birth, placenta accreta spectrum, and multiple gestations. He is medical director of the Women and Infant Substance Help (WISH) Center at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - St. Louis. The center provides comprehensive maternity care for expectant mothers with opioid addiction. Dr. Chavan is an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and serves as associate director for the school's Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program. His research interests include disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality, health equity, preterm birth prevention, cardiac disease in pregnancy, quality improvement and development of best practices in perinatal addiction.

His clinical expertise encompasses Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Preeclampsia, Gestational Diabetes, Small for Gestational Age, and Hysterectomy.

Dr. Chavan is board certified in American Board Of Obstetrics & Gynecology , American Board Of Obstetrics/Gynecology-Maternal & Fetal Medicine , American Board Of Preventive Medicine , Drug Enforcement Administration , Illinois Department Of Financial & Professional Regulation , Missouri Dept Of Health/Narcotics&Dangerous Drugs , and Missouri State Board Of Registration. He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 28 peer reviewed articles.
