Steven J. Kasten, MD, MHPE., serves as a Clinical Professor in the Section of Plastic Surgery. He is a Michigan native, received his MD from The University of Michigan and his Masters in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed residency training in plastic surgery at the University of Michigan and is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is Surgeon-in-Chief at Mott Children’s Hospital as well as the Institutional Laser Safety Officer. Clinically he is the Director of the Vascular Anomalies Program and the Associate Director of the Craniofacial Anomalies Program.Dr. Kasten serves as a senior oral examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is past president of the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons. He is also an active member or committee member/chair in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Association of Plastic Surgeons, American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons, American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association, Plastic Surgery Research Council and the American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons.

He completed a Fellowship in Clinical Ethics at the Emory University Center for Ethics and earned a Masters of Arts degree in Bioethics from Trinity. He currently serves as the Chair of the Pediatric Ethics Committee of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and is Co-Chair of the Adult Ethics Committee at Michigan Medicine.
