Overview
Michael Sobolewski, DO, MS, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and serves as the Western Region Director for Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute in State College and Lewistown.|Dr Sobolewski specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder focusing on minimally invasive techniques and the latest technology for expedited recovery. He performs Mako robotic-arm-assisted total knee replacement, partial knee replacement and total hip replacement. His practice also includes general orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine procedures such as ACL reconstruction, meniscus/ cartilage surgery, arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, carpal tunnel surgery and fracture care.|Dr. Sobolewski obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy in June 2008 and Master of Science in Medical Education in May 2011 at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medical Training in June 2013 and served as Chief Resident from July 2012 to June 2013.|Prior to joining Geisinger, Dr Sobolewski held the position of Medical Director for the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine as well as Chief of Surgery at Somerset Hospital in Pennsylvania. He leads one of the largest orthopaedic trauma teams in the country, providing care at three Level II trauma centers and at one Level I center. Dr. Horwitz has published extensively on aspects of orthopaedic trauma, ranging from fracture fixation and early evaluation of geriatric patients to health system issues, including efficiency and medical legal questions. He currently supervises two international trauma research fellows, actively teaches orthopaedic residents and lectures nationally and internationally on all aspects of orthopaedic trauma. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Horwitz enjoys visiting Scotland, and his favorite food is sushi. He spends much of his time with 3 dogs, 5 cats and 70 chickens.
