Dr. John T. Stranix MD a native of Vienna, is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at UVA, where he is recognized for his expertise in advanced surgical techniques. His practice focuses on breast cancer reconstruction, lower extremity reconstruction, abdominal wall repair, perforator flap surgery, complex wound healing, gender-affirming procedures, and physiologic lymphedema surgery. With a strong emphasis on microsurgery, Dr. Stranix is dedicated to providing high-quality care for patients with complex reconstructive needs.Dr. Stranix began his academic journey at the University of Virginia, where he majored in chemistry and met his wife, Nancy, an orthodontist. He went on to pursue a master’s degree in physiology from Georgetown University, before earning his medical degree at the Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Stranix served as class president and graduated as valedictorian, further demonstrating his commitment to academic and clinical excellence. He then completed his plastic surgery residency at New York University and Bellevue Hospital in New York City, followed by specialized training in reconstructive microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
