Overview
I am an enthusiastic person and like to incorporate this energy into my visits. I have a broad practice, specializing in both general and colorectal surgery. Colorectal surgery is admittedly a unique path to choose. People often ask why I chose this field. What I find most attractive about this specialty is the long and meaningful relationships I cultivate with my patients. Caring for patients with diseases, such as cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, affords time to get to know patients as people. These long-term relationships help keep me in touch with the human side of medicine. I have a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery. With minimally invasive surgery, I am able to carry out major surgeries through much smaller incisions. This affords an easier recovery and is much less disruptive to the busy lives many of my patients lead. I have a very supportive family. In my free time, we enjoy spending time together as a family. My wife and I are born and raised Texans. We enjoy traveling as a family, spending time outdoors, fishing, and relaxing.

Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center
I am a colorectal surgeon and researcher who has been at Duke for about 25 years. I see patients who have issues with the small bowel, colon, rectum and anus. These issues include benign tumors, cancers, hemorrhoids and fistulas. The best part of my job is operating. The operating room is a special place, where we have been able to put a number of processes in place so things run smoothly and we can give patients the best chance at a good outcome. The fact that you can take a condition, operate and potentially cure a patient is fascinating to me. As a faculty member, I also enjoy when I have the chance to teach residents during the operation.
