I decided to pursue a career in obstetrics after observing a delivery during my first week of obstetrics training in medical school. I was a graduate student working on a combined MD and PhD in neuroscience research when my twin boys arrived prematurely and needed the services of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This experience in the NICU environment inspired me to continue my work in neuroscience and specialize in neonatology.
