“My dad was my biggest influence in medicine,” he said. “He was a combat medic in the Air Force, and later worked in occupational medicine. Any time we had any sickness or injuries growing up, he would take care of us or stitch us up at home.” Cook completed an undergraduate degree in exercise science at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville.
