Dr. Sheppard is Board Certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. Currently specializing in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the chest, lung and mediastinum. Dr. Sheppard became interested in Lung Cancer Screening using CT scans early in his career. Founded and served as the Principal Investigator of Mills-Peninsula Lung Cancer Screening Study 2001-2010 and a contributing International Early Lung Cancer Action Project (IELCAP) Investigator.Dr. Sheppard was involved in the creation and development of the Lung Cancer Screening Program at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center 2015-2021.
