Craig T. Arntz, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic shoulder specialist with 25 years of experience treating problems that often require shoulder surgery, including rotator cuff tears, instability, fractures, and shoulder arthritis. He has advanced training in shoulder surgery with extensive experience in treating the most complex shoulder disorders. With a clinical practice that spans the range of upper extremity pathology, I have advanced training and interest in the newest techniques for hand and wrist trauma, arthritis of the upper extremity, nerve compression syndromes including carpal tunnel, tumors around the hand and arm, and repetitive stress injuries. The trend is towards less invasive procedures to allow more rapid return to work, sports, and daily activities. Surgery is just one option; many of these diagnoses can be successfully managed without surgery with a coordinated approach including therapy, medications, and patient education. Even though my focus is on the upper extremity pathology, it is important to recognize that these problems commonly affect the whole patient - their work, recreational activities, and even simple daily tasks - and their treatment must be undertaken in that context.
