I treat a variety of skin conditions and disorders with a particular focus on cutaneous cancers (melanoma, basal, and squamous cell carcinoma). I am hoping to increase access to dermatology by expanding our tele-dermatology service. I am interested in applying technology in an innovative fashion to dermatology. My focus is on medical dermatology, particularly patients who are immunocompromised. As a medical and surgical dermatologist, I have over 45 years of experience in helping patients maintain healthy skin. I have special expertise in managing patients with many moles and in the early detection and treatment of skin cancers, such as basal and squamous cell cancers as well as melanoma. To this end, I use a technique called dermoscopy in which a hand-held, illuminated magnifier is used to analyze moles and other skin lesions to help make a diagnosis and to decide if a biopsy might be needed or not. Prior to moving to North Carolina in 2016 to be closer to family, I ran a private dermatology practice in Boca Raton, Florida, which I started in 1979. I was also an affiliate professor in the dermatology department at the University of Miami, where I practiced pediatric dermatology and also ran the pigmented lesion clinic for many years. After graduating from college, I was awarded a Fulbright fellowship and moved to Dublin, Ireland to work for the European Institute of Women’s Health. Shuffling between Birmingham and Boston for my medical training, I have settled in beautiful North Carolina with my husband who is a fellow in Hematology/Oncology at the University of North Carolina. We are enjoying the cultural richness of the Triangle area and the diverse landscape of North Carolina. Being a part of Duke’s amazing medical community has allowed me to pursue my clinical interest in complex medical dermatology and my translational research interest in neutrophilic skin diseases such as psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. I am actively working on projects that focus on antibody-based therapies targeting immune dysregulation in skin disease.  The most gratifying experiences for me as a physician have been providing treatment and support to patients struggling with skin diseases and contributing to improvements in their overall quality of life.
