Dr. Charles Castillo

Dr. Hernandez is an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and specializes in the treatment of benign and cancerous breast diseases. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is a board certified surgeon and has recently re-certified with the American Board of surgery for the fourth time in his career.Dr. Hernandez completed his general surgery residency at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona in 1983 and practiced General Surgery and trauma surgery in the early years of his career. During the past 10 years and currently, Dr. Hernandez has dedicated his surgical practice exclusively to the practice of breast and Oncoplastic Surgery. He operates at both Chandler Regional Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.Regularly featured in Phoenix Magazine's annual list of Top Doctors, Dr. Hernandez has been credited in the state of Arizona as being one of the earliest pioneers in the field of breast-conserving surgery, and advanced innovative techniques as Oncoplastic Surgery, Brachytherapy and Nipple-Areolar Skin-Sparing Mastectomies. He believes in comprehensive Breast Cancer care in conjunction with both Radiation and Medical Oncology.Over the years, Dr. Hernandez has served the regional medical community in various leadership roles that includes serving Chandler Regional Medical Center as the Chief of Staff, the Chairman of the Department of Surgery also as a Member of the hospital's Board of Directors. He is well respected in the medical community as a leader and a colleague.Dr. Hernandez was born in Mexico and immigrated to the USA at the age of ten. He has been a recognized asset to the community and has received two humanitarian awards from the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona and the Fresh Start Women's Foundation. Dr. Ho joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in September, 2017. Dr. Ho is a Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Breast Oncology Fellowship trained breast surgeon. She completed her Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA. During her fellowship, she also trained at the University of California, Los Angles (UCLA). This prestigious fellowship afforded Dr. Ho the opportunity to conduct cutting edge clinical research while performing innovative surgeries including: oncoplastic breast surgery, skin sparing and nipple sparing mastectomies, arm port placement for chemotherapy, cryoablation, and intraoperative radiation therapy.Dr. Ho began her journey to medicine through engineering. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree at the California Institute of Technology and a Master's Degree in Engineering at UCLA. After a successful career as a software engineer, she returned to school to complete her medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where she was the President of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association.Her engineering training contributed to her attention to detail and technical precision, leading her to pursue a career in surgery. She completed her general surgery residency at the Nassau University Medical Center in New York where she conducted research focusing on patient outcomes in trauma care.She is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the TARGIT Collaborative Group.  Dr. Ho is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery.Outside of work, Dr. Ho enjoys spending time with family, travelling, outdoor activities, cooking, gardening, and water sports.
