Dr. Shweta U. Dhar

As the Medical Director for the Adult Genetics Clinic at BCM I am proud to say that this is one of the largest Adult Genetics Clinic in the country. My primary clinical focus lies in diagnosis and management of adults with genetic conditions, known or suspected. These include diagnosis and management of single gene disorders, chromosomal disorders and familial cancer syndromes; risk assessment for cancer and reproductive planning as well as testing for known genetic disorders in the family. I have developed a keen interest and a valuable expertise in management of connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers Danlos syndrome as patients from far and near come to me for evaluation. I am also involved in education of medical students at BCM particularly in the field of adult genetics. I am one of the track directors for the Genetics track, the first such medical school track of its kind in the country, where students get an unparalleled experience in genetics over and above what they learn in their core courses. My research focus is on diagnosing rare genetic disorders and I am the team leader for adult genetics for the Undiagnosed Disease Network Project currently ongoing at BCM in collaboration with several other centers across the nation.
