She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.Dr. Rutherford dedicates the balance of her time to medical education and clinical research. She is the director of the 7-week gastroenterology pathophysiology course for medical students in the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology. Her clinical research has focused on identifying factors that affect clinical outcome in acute liver failure and liver transplantation, predictors of hepatic decompensation as well as liver disease and pregnancy. Dr. Rutherford is an Associate Editor for the Clinical Observations section in Hepatology, and she serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the New England chapter of the American Liver Foundation. In 2018, Dr. Rutherford was awarded the Dr. Jerry Trier Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching (HMS) and in 2019 she was the recipient of the Irving M. London Teaching Award for excellence and dedication to teaching in biomedical science (HMS/HST).
