During my neurology and neurophysiology training at Duke, I developed an abiding fondness for my colleagues and patients, so it was an easy decision to stay on as an attending physician. I have the privilege of working with patients in both the hospital and clinic. As a hospital neurologist, my interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of acute neurologic problems, such as seizures, head injuries, infections, and autoimmune conditions. My outpatient practice focuses on the treatment of epilepsy in patients with hard-to-control seizures. In both the hospital and clinic, I have the pleasure of working with the excellent medical students, residents, and fellows of Duke University Hospital, along with nationally and internationally recognized colleagues. Dr. Luedke is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. His top areas of expertise are Seizures, Autosomal Dominant Partial Epilepsy with Auditory Features, Memory Loss, and Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure.

I am a neurologist and specialize in epilepsy. I see patients who have seizures and help them decide on a comprehensive plan for their diagnosis and treatment. I treat patients with seizures that are difficult to control. I also treat patients that have failed several medications and are looking for other options, such as surgery, clinical trials, and neuromodulation devices, such as responsive neurostimulation (RNS), vagal nerve stimulation (VNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS). I also have an interest in treating female patients with epilepsy and the role hormones can play in their seizures (eg. pregnancy). I focus not only on helping my patients control their seizures, but also addressing the other issues that are associated with being an epilepsy patient, such as depression, quality of life, medication side effects, other neurological issues, and social issues. At Duke Health, we have conferences where our entire team of epileptologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, technicians, and neuropsychologists meet to discuss individual patients in order to offer the appropriate management. We believe in the timely identification of patients with seizures that are difficult to control and interventions to improve their quality of life. Dr. Parikh is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. Her top areas of expertise are Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure, Seizures, Memory Loss, and Benign Rolandic Epilepsy.

I have been a faculty member at Duke for 30 years, specializing in the care of patients with epilepsy or sleep disorders. During that time, I have seen tremendous progress in the treatments available in both areas, and I remain excited about being able to provide those advances to my patients. I have also recently gained a personal perspective, having been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, and becoming a dedicated CPAP user myself. Dr. Radtke is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. His top areas of expertise are Seizures, Memory Loss, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Epilepsy.

After working for almost six years in family medicine, my love of neurology led me to pursue further training to become a neurologist and epilepsy specialist. My practice is divided into two main settings. In the inpatient setting, I take care of patients with neurological emergencies, like stroke and seizures, as well as neurological complications from other illnesses. My outpatient practice focuses on post-hospitalization care of patients with neurological illnesses, as well as on patients with neurological conditions like intractable epilepsy, headache, and multiple sclerosis. I like to spend time getting to know my patients, collaborating with their families if needed, and exploring the root cause of a problem rather than just treating their symptoms or illness. I like to treat my patients the way I would like myself or my family to be treated. Dr. Mandge is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. His top areas of expertise are Seizures, Epilepsy, Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure, and Memory Loss.

I am currently the chief of the division of Epilepsy, Sleep, and Clinical Neurophysiology. I see epilepsy patients and patients with sleep disorders. The epilepsy patients that I see often have a hard time controlling their seizures or have other epilepsy-related problems. At Duke, we have many options, including clinical trials, advanced medications, and surgical options, that we can offer patients to get them to a better quality of life with fewer or no seizures. In sleep disorders, I see many patients with sleep apnea and have a passion for treating individuals with narcolepsy. My philosophy is that I want patients to be aware of all the different treatment options that they have available this them. Together, we come up with what I, the patient, and the family think is the best approach for the individual. This way, we can individualize the treatment for each person. It is very gratifying for me to see patients doing so much better with the appropriate medications and pursuing the dreams they have and doing the things they really want to do. Dr. Husain is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. His top areas of expertise are Seizures, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness, Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizure, Microvascular Decompression, and Spinal Fusion.

What is the definition of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy?

Benign rolandic epilepsy (BRE) is the most common form of childhood epilepsy. It is referred to as "benign" because most children outgrow the condition by puberty. This form of epilepsy is characterized by seizures involving a part of the brain called the rolandic area. These seizures typically occur during the nighttime. Other features of BRE include headaches or migraines and behavioral and/or learning differences. BRE is thought to be a genetic disorder because most affected individuals have a family history of epilepsy.

When should I see a Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor near Durham, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor near Durham, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctors near Durham, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctors near Durham, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor near Durham, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor near Durham, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctors near Durham, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Benign Rolandic Epilepsy doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
