Dr. Chirag V. Shah

Chirag V. Shah, MD, MSCE, is the de Neufville-endowed chairman of medicine at Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). Board-certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has been a practicing pulmonologist and medical intensivist since 2007. He attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City’s accelerated six-year combined BA/MD program. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO, and remained there as an instructor of medicine. He subsequently completed fellowships in both pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, and earned a Master of Science in clinical epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He was awarded an NIH K23 grant for his research in sepsis-related acute lung injury and was an assistant professor of medicine and senior scholar in epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania before being recruited to Morristown Medical Center in 2009.Dr. Shah’s clinical interests include diffuse parenchymal lung disease/interstitial lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary embolism, and the care of the critically ill. His scholarly contributions have been presented at international conferences and published in the American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, CHEST, JAMA Network Open, and Critical Care Medicine. He has been recognized among New Jersey Monthly’s Top Doctors and the Atlantic Center for Research for his contributions, and is the recipient of numerous department of medicine teaching awards. He is a member of the professional organizations the American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Medical Association, and is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.Dr. Shah has a passion for providing personalized patient care, developing innovation strategies to optimize processes of care, and expanding programmatic and educational growth. He has an unwavering dedication to education and mentorship, having guided over 45 physicians into careers in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
