Philosophy of care | Because everyone has unique issues and concerns about their musculoskeletal problem, I spend time learning about what is impacting you and designing a treatment plan to accomplish your goals. I make sure you understand both the details of your condition and the treatments I propose. In this way, we can truly move forward with shared decision-making to achieve an optimal outcome. Educating the next generation of orthopedic surgeons is also a priority of mine; I am leading a team to build a new orthopedic residency training program here at LVHN. | Why I entered medicine | I still remember as a child accompanying my father (an orthopedic surgeon) on his patient rounds. I dreamed of one day helping patients return to the activities they loved just as did. I studied hard, became an EMT, volunteered at a firehouse, worked ski patrol in college and taught the winter care emergency course to my fellow patrollers. In medical school I found orthopedic surgery to be the most exciting path for me, and I have never looked back. I have found immense satisfaction over the years helping patients feel and function better, and am so gratified hearing I have changed their lives for the better. | Community involvement | As the father of two preemies (born 11 weeks early), my wife and I have supported research to investigate the causes of premature birth. We have been on the leadership team for the Philadelphia March of Dimes' annual March for Babies for several years. My daughter has started a non-profit to provide board books to families in the NICU so they can read to their children and enhance their language skills. I also have been an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Dartmouth College, for over 20 years. | Personal interests | I enjoy skiing, hiking and biking with my wife, daughter and son. I welcome any and all dad jokes and puns. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. Philosophy of care | Medicine and radiology should be centered on you, the patient, and your images should be tailored to address your specific concerns. Philosophy of care | I have been caring for patients over 25 years. The central theme of my care is treating you (and every patient) with the utmost respect. We will make decisions together and I will treat you as if you are a member of my own family. I will use my expertise to explain all the particulars of your diagnosis and treatment options so that you can best make informed decisions for yourself. | Why I entered medicine | I decided to pursue a career in medicine at age 13 when my 11-year-old brother was hospitalized with a severe spinal infection. I never waivered in that decision, and found as I went through the process that I thoroughly enjoy helping others, finding ways to solve their problems and being their advocate through medical issues. I enthusiastically enjoy every day doing this type of work. | Community involvement | Since I came to this area in 1995, I have dedicated a substantial portion of my time to the community. I have served leadership roles at the local hospitals for 23 of those 25 years, have always treated everyone regardless of ability to pay, taken care of athletes for many hours on the fields and contributed to numerous local charities. I was honored to be inducted into the Warren County (N.J.) Hall of Fame for my community service. | Personal interests | My main interests are my children. My daughter works for the National Academy of Medicine. She received her master’s degree in Global Health from Duke University. She and I have traveled all over the world and pursue outdoor activities such as helicopter skiing in the Canadian Rockies, hiking Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, bungee jumping and doing a safari in South Africa, ice glacier hiking in Norway, and bar hopping in Copenhagen. My son just got drafted by the Chicago White Sox as a pitcher and I support his endeavors spending many hours on the baseball diamond. Philosophy of care | I think of medicine as a science and an art. There is no perfect answer for everyone — treatment needs to be based on your individual needs and goals. Whether or not a patient needs surgery, good medical care is a process to get a patient from injury or disease to treatment success and I like to remain involved in that complete process. | Why I entered medicine | I entered medicine because I wanted to help people and be challenged intellectually. I chose orthopedics, and specifically sports medicine, due to my passion for being active and playing sports while growing up. Fitness and sports remain an important part of my own life today. I have never required surgery, but have had several broken bones, including an ankle fracture in medical school. Dealing with those injuries provided me perspective on recovery and the importance of therapy in conjunction with surgical treatment. | Community involvement | I’ve participated in races raising money for various charities, including the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as community outreach projects during school and training in Philadelphia, such as Habitat For Humanity. I did public health outreach while in medical school. | Personal interests | My personal interests include football, baseball and hockey, as well as keeping fit by running, lifting weights and biking. I also enjoy food, especially grilling/smoking meat. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. "Philosophy of care | I want to get to know you, first as a person, not as a patient. I want to know what kind of work you do, what sports you play, and what hobbies/extracurricular activities you enjoy. I will then take your medical history, my physical exam, and diagnostic studies to come up with a diagnosis. I will teach you about your problem and the most up-to-date treatment options, including what tends to work (and not work). I will help you improve and reach an outcome you are pleased with through mutual decision-making, making sure to exhaust all non-operative measures. As partners, we weigh the risks and benefits of various options and choose a plan we are both happy with. If the answer is surgery, I will help you through the process and be with you every step of the way on your recovery. I treat all patients like family, but also use the scientific orthopedic literature to help guide the decision-making process. | Why I entered medicine | I grew up in Florida and my father was an ophthalmologist (and original Tampa Bay Rays eye doctor). With my mother being a nurse, I was always exposed to medicine. I saw my parents helping people and was inspired to pursue medicine as a career. That, plus my love for sports, sciences, biomechanics and anatomy, led me toward orthopedics. It's very rewarding to help people get their function, motion and quality of life back. As a collegiate baseball player, I was drawn to the anatomy, biomechanics, and function of the upper extremity, and how to rehab and treat the common injuries. As the team hand surgeon for many local high schools, colleges and professional teams, I understand what it takes to get you ""back on the field."" | Community involvement | I have worked with local high school students interested in health care and led them through several upper extremity cadaver dissections. I am also the team hand surgeon for many local high schools, Lehigh University, Kutztown University and Muhlenberg College to name a few. I am the hand surgeon for the American Hockey League - Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In my spare time, I coach Little League baseball in the South Parkland Youth Association. | Personal interests | Professionally, I enjoy teaching our next generation of physicians: high school students, medical students and plastic surgery residents, in the office and the OR. | Personally, I enjoy traveling, the beach, all four seasons the Lehigh Valley has to offer, and spending time with my wife and four children. I am often a part-time chauffeur for my kids' activities, as well as a Little League baseball coach. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. What is the definition of Caffey Disease?

Caffey disease, also called infantile cortical hyperostosis, is a bone disorder that most often occurs in babies. Excessive new bone formation (hyperostosis) is characteristic of Caffey disease. The bone abnormalities mainly affect the jawbone, shoulder blades (scapulae), collarbones (clavicles), and the shafts (diaphyses) of long bones in the arms and legs. Affected bones may double or triple in width, which can be seen by x-ray imaging. In some cases two bones that are next to each other, such as two ribs or the pairs of long bones in the forearms (radius and ulna) or lower legs (tibia and fibula) become fused together. Babies with Caffey disease also have swelling of joints and of soft tissues such as muscles, with pain and redness in the affected areas. Affected infants can also be feverish and irritable.

When should I see a Caffey Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Caffey Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Caffey Disease doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Caffey Disease doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Caffey Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Caffey Disease doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Caffey Disease doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Caffey Disease doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Caffey Disease doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Caffey Disease doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.
