Richard L. McGough, III, MD, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Brown University. He also completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, remaining there as a surgical oncology research fellow. Dr. McGough is currently a professor of orthopaedic surgery with a dual appointment in the Division of Surgical Oncology. He serves as chief of musculoskeletal oncology at UPMC. Dr. McGough's primary research interest is osseointegration prostheses for amputees, and he performed the first upper extremity osseointegration procedure in the United States.
